The 'Perfil' Case: ruling against soft censorship

A court ruled that the Executive Branch committed a discriminatory act by denying public advertising allocation to the Perfil publishing company in retaliation for its critical coverage of government-related news. The Association for Civil Rights (ADC) considers the decision represents an important step in strengthening freedom of expression in Argentina and calls Congress to legislate on this matter.

The Supreme Court ordered the State and Metrovías to refurbish all subway stations to meet the needs of the persons with disabilities

In response to a writ of amparo sponsored by the Asociación por los Derechos Civiles (ADC), the Supreme Court ordered both the federal government and Metrovías –the company that runs the subway transportation system of Buenos Aires city-, to present within the next six months a master plan to remodel all subway stations in order to meet the needs of persons with disabilities.

This is a landmark decision concerning the recognition and enforcement of the rights of persons with disabilities. It is also a achievement in terms of strategic litigation because it sets an important precedent concerning the State’s obligations in public transportation.
